BALLOON FESTIVAL IN INDIANAPOLIS
Sam Schmidt in a Hot Air Balloon
On Saturday, May 2nd, the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation sponsored the winning hot air balloon in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's Centennial Era Balloon Festival.
Sam Schmidt himself got to go up in the balloon the very next day. He said of the experience, "Fantastic opportunity to be flying in the race this morning. We left the IMS infield and headed straight down the front stretch over Turn 1. It was way different than taking that path at 228 mph, but equally as exciting. I had no idea ballooning was such a team sport and there is a great deal of technical ability required to compete at the top level. Just like Indy Car racing. Many thanks to Al Hansen and his crew for the excellent performance and, more importantly, all of the tethered rides at RHI on Saturday.
