About the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation
The Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation (SSPF) was started in 2000 by IndyCar driver Sam Schmidt shortly after a practice run crash left him paralyzed from the chest down. SSPF is “leading the charge to cure paralysis” by funding scientific research, medical treatment, rehabilitation and technological advances, benefiting stroke victims and people diagnosed with ALS, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. In addition to initiating local and national advocacy efforts on behalf of those disabled, SSPF funds various quality of life grants to organizations and funds the national Day at the Races program. Ida Cahill, President, is a member of the national Spinal Cord Leaders Council and the national Paralysis Task Force.

Sam Schmidt was recognized by the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation with the 2008 Visionary Leader Award, acknowledging his dedication and commitment to funding research and bettering the lives of those who are paralyzed. About the Milwaukee Mile
The legendary Milwaukee Mile is one of America’s premier race track in the world. The one-mile oval at the Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis, Wis., is the oldest, continually operating racing facility in North America with the first auto event being held in 1903. William Jones won that first event and many of the greatest drivers in the world have captured races at the oval track. The Mile, now 108 years old, is rich with tradition and has hosted exciting competitions from Indy cars, stock cars, sports cars, motorcycles, sprint cars and midgets. The infield of the track even hosted the 1939 NFL Championship game with the Green Bay Packers defeating the New York Giants.
