INDY 500 PROGRAM 2009
An Unforgettable Weekend

On May 20, 2009 the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation welcomed nine special guests to Indianapolis for a memorable weekend, an annual experience we call the “Indy 500 Program”.  In exchange for their generous support of SSPF, these nine were introduced to the exciting world of Indycar racing and the Indianapolis 500, the Greatest Spectacle in Motorsports, with access that only a few world leaders and celebrities typically receive.

After flying to Indianapolis by private jet, the group was met at the airport by a limousine, which continued to be at their disposal for the weekend.  First stop was the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where they were presented with all the credentials needed for unrestricted access to racing pits and garages throughout the weekend, right up until the start of the Indy 500 on Sunday.  Other highlights of this unforgettable weekend included dinners at 5 Star restaurants, photos and conversation with racecar drivers, pace car rides, an informational tour at the shop of one of the IRL’s premier teams, a chance to visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s world-renowned racing museum, gifts and souvenirs.  This year’s guests were present for a special treat when Sam Schmidt Motorsports car #11, driven by Wade Cunningham, won Friday’s Indy Lights Freedom 100 race.  All of our Indy 500 Program guests were welcomed to Victory Circle for the celebration and photos.

Ida Cahill, Sam Schmidt and the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation would like to thank this year’s Indy 500 guests for their generous support, which helps the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation move life-altering medical research out of the laboratories and into human clinical trials, fund Quality of Life grants that improve the lives of the almost 6 million people in the U.S. living with paralysis, as well as our extremely popular “Day at the Races” program.  We thoroughly enjoyed their company and hope to see them again soon.
