SAM SCHMIDT HOSTS MISS AMERICA CONTESTANTS IN LAS VEGAS
Promotional event held at indoor karting center
Sam Schmidt recently welcomed Miss America pageant contestants to his new indoor karting center, Pole Position Raceway, in Las Vegas. Asked what it was like to spend the day with all those beautiful Miss America contestants, Sam offered a tongue-in-cheek reply, "We needed to have an ownership presence at the event, and since no one else was available, and as much of a struggle as it was, I eventually drug myself down there. They had to twist my arm, but in the end we agreed to host the Miss America contestants at Pole Position Raceway. In all seriousness, it actually was quite a blast."
The contestants were given a chance to practice their skills on the karting track before competing in a qualifying round. The top 10 advanced to the final race. In the end, Miss South Dakota Alexandra Huffman took the checkered flag over Miss Michigan Ashley Glenn and Miss Wyoming Courtney Gifford.
Although she had failed to qualify for the finals at the karting track, Miss Indiana Katie Stam proved to be the greatest competitor after all, ultimately winning the title of Miss America 2009 at the pageant last Saturday night. Hopefully she’s also a race fan!
Sam co-owns the indoor karting center with several people in various racing related fields, including Brad Mark, Jamie Little, Kurt Busch, Jeremy McGrath, & Mike Metzger, along with other prominent Vegas businessmen.
