SAM SCHMIDT TO BE FEATURED GUEST ON ESPN-TV'S COLD PIZZA

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – Sam Schmidt, the founder of the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation and an advocate of stem cell research, will be a featured guest on ESPN-TV’s “Cold Pizza” show on Friday morning, July 14.

“Cold Pizza” airs live, nationally from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Eastern Daylight Time, on ESPN2 and is repeated from noon to 2 p.m.

Schmidt, who will be at the Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, TN for the weekend’s Infinity Pro Series and IndyCar Series races, will answer questions and make remarks about the Foundation and goals. A special emphasis will center on Foundation’s unique “Day at the Races” program and the impending vote in the United States Senate on bills promoting stem cell research.

The “Day at the Races” program benefits local victims of spinal cord injuries and their families - the very thing that the SSPF is working so hard to perpetuate. The “Day at the Races” program provides these people with a gratifying, behind-the-scenes experience at the IndyCar races and includes tours of the garages, meet and greet sessions with the drivers, a private lunch and a chance to watch the races in a comfortable but exciting setting.

The SSPF collaborates with local hospitals, rehabilitation centers and organizations for the disabled such as VA hospitals and veteran associations to establish the list of attendees. The “Day at the Races” program at Nashville Superspeedway will take place on Saturday and is expected to boast one of its largest turnouts of guests ever assembled for such an event.

In addition to the SSPF and the “Day at the Races”, Schmidt will also have the opportunity to express his support of the Stem Cell Enhancement Act, H.R. 810 that is expected to be introduced and debated by the United States Senate later this week along with several other associated bills.

H.R. 810 was passed by the House of Representatives on May 24, 2005, and shortly before the Senate’s July 4th recess, Senator Bill Frist successfully obtained what is called “unanimous consent” from his Senate colleagues to move forward with the vote on the package. This will be the only opportunity to get this bill and others associated with such research passed by the Senate.

Included in the package with H.R. 810 is the Alternative Pluripotent Stem Cell Therapies Enhancement Act, S. 2754, and the Fetus Farming Prohibition Act of 2006, S. 3504.

The Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research is dedicated in advancing stem cell research in this country and is promoting votes leading to the passage of H.R. 810 that alone will finally move stem cell research forward in the United States.

Supporters of stem cell research are being urged to pick up the telephone and call their State Senators NOW, urging them to vote in favor of H.R. 810.

Sam will promote his own urging of the bill’s passage by carrying VOTE YES - H.R. 810 identification on his Infinity Pro Series racecar that he owns. Jay Howard will drive the car in the IPS event at the Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday afternoon beginning at 5 p.m. The race will be taped for delay airing on ESPN2 on Thursday, July 20, at 2 p.m. EDT.
