10-11-2004 STATEMENT FROM SAM SCHMIDT ON THE DEATH ON CHRISTOPER REEVE
STATEMENT FROM SAM SCHMIDT, CHAIRMAN OF THE SAM SCHMIDT PARALYSIS FOUNDATION, ON THE DEATH ON CHRISTOPER REEVE:
(Indianapolis, IN) - “It’s truly a sad and heartrending day, especially for those who suffer from paralysis. Christopher Reeve put a face on spinal cord injuries and represented all of us with paralysis on an international level. He vigorously challenged and supported researchers to find cures and treatments through the Christopher Reeve Foundation.
“Everyone at the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation sends their condolences to his wife, Dana and the entire Reeve family. Christopher Reeve was a real super man. Since meeting him personally in 2003, his hope, energy and unending search for an answer for millions of people, has inspired me daily.”
Sam Schmidt is chairman of the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation, the mission of which is to fund medical research to find cures and rehabilitation treatments for spinal cord injuries as well as support quality of life issues through its “Day at the Races” program.
Schmidt, from Las Vegas, Nevada, was paralyzed from the chest down in an accident practicing for an Indy Racing League event in January of 2000. Today Schmidt, in addition to directing the foundation, also runs Sam Schmidt Motorsports, a racing team that recently won the Indy Racing League Menards Infiniti Pro Series season championship for 2004.
