RUN, WALK 'N WHEELATHONS

The Run Walk ‘N Wheelathon events offer a unique experience for all participants to be among the few who actually have access to the IZOD IndyCar tracks. 

The Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation recognizes that with a collaborative effort comes strength.  It is through our partnerships with the tracks, community organizations and hospitals, and the entire IZOD Indy Car family that we are able to create an exciting and successful event that benefits everyone.

Following impressive inaugural events in 2009, in 2010 over 1,800 people participated in our Run Walk ‘N Wheelathon events held at various locations, including the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Florida, the Honda Indy Toronto and the Honda Indy Edmonton.  We were happy to welcome not only dedicated runners from local clubs, but also families, veterans groups and foundation supporters. 

In 2011 we expect to increase the number of participants and events. We will once again collaborate with local organizations to lend support to the men and women in the armed services who have served our country by funding paralysis research currently being conducted in each city.

Proceeds of these fundraising events are earmarked for paralysis research, helping the almost six million people in the United States who have some form of paralysis.  The local money raised is distributed to hospitals and research centers in the area.

Everyone who runs, walks, wheels or volunteers at our Run, Walk ‘N Wheelathons has a great time.  These events are successful in terms of fundraising as well as media exposure, and also provide positive PR for racetracks and racing promoters.  They have proven to be safe, fun events which expose new people to the exciting racetrack atmosphere.  Many go on to become Indycar fans.
